Awkward and Awesome

Awkward:

~ Finding out 10 minutes before my violin recital starts that I'm playing my song with a kid half my age and half my size. Really embarassing. Thank goodness he didn't end up playing. :)

~ Having 9 fingernails painted and one not because my one nail decided it was a good idea to have all my nailpolish peel off in one big layer while I was weeding the garden. Yeah, I'm gonna have to fix that...

~ Having people mistake you for Mom because apparently you look the same from the back. It gets really tiring being called Mom all the time. :)

~ Having the baby spit up down the front of your shirt

~ The look on my brother's face when he finds out I've done 2 units of my Geometry in 2 days. (There's 10 units)

~ Watching a new movie and find out where Dad got this one term that he's used with us for forever and ever. The Crane Technique just took on a whole new meaning.

~ Realizing I have somewhat of a lip balm addiction. I think I have 17 tubes right now.

Awesome:

~ FINALLY getting through my Algebra. Between Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1, it took me about 3 years.

~ Having Danielle do baby talk all. day. long. It's really cute. :)

~ Getting a package in the mail from a super sweet friend of mine that I met through Etsy. She sent me some "I Love This Yarn" From Hobby Lobby. I've never tried it before, because we just got a Hobby Lobby here, and the only time I'm near it is on Sunday, when it's closed. The color pink she sent me is the prettiest ever! I am so in love already. :) And, the package had Snoopy on it. I mean, how much better can it get???

~ Finally getting some lip balm in the mail that I ordered a couple weeks ago. Chocolate Caramel Popcorn Lip Balm. I mean, how awesome does that sound? Since the real stuff is so unhealty for you, this is the next best thing. :)

~ Looking forward with great anticipation to a conference this weekend I'm going to. It goes from Friday night through Saturday. Like all day Saturday. Like 7:15 in the morning to 8:15 at night all day. I'm SO looking forward to it!

I can't think of a title....

I can't. I've got too much random stuff to talk about today, that I can't think of anything to title it. Hm.....

An update on the recital: It went really, REALLY well. I did 3 songs, and I wasn't nervous for any of them. Like, not at all. My heart wasn't beating any faster, and I didn't have any butterflies, which is really weird, because normally when I'm going to perform I'm a nervous wreck. My teacher ended up doing the accompaniment with me, although I literally didn't know that until I walked on stage to do the song. That was a little stressful, but it turned out ok. I don't know what happened though, because what she was playing was different than what she did on Thursday. It didn't sound nearly as thin. Although on the music stand on stage she had music for different songs, and I don't know how she could have memorized something that fast... Dad had pneumonia, and couldn't come, so we left early so we could get home, and we didn't go to church. Mom doesn't like night driving at all, so unless Dad can come with us, we don't go. Although, by the time we got back home it was still 7:00.

Hm... Monday was a quiet day at home, and so was Tuesday, for me anyway. Jonathan had an orthodontist appointment in town, so Mom and the rest of the family went to town while I stayed home. Like all by myself. And when you're in a family of 9, that's like heaven to have it be completely quiet for like 6 hours. I got some math done, got some laundry and baking done, and just kind of hung out. They left at 10:15, and didn't get home until about 5. It was really nice for it to be so quiet. That's hard to get around here. :) In fact, most of the time I can't read any books because it's too noisy and I can't focus on it. How sad is that? :) I have to either wake up really early or go to bed late if I want to read anything. That or get my school done early and read while everyone else is doing theirs. :)

Wednesday I had an awesome day. Of course, I went into town again with Dad, although this time Annabeth came too. We've started doing sleepovers on Wednesdays, because then we can come pick them up Thursday when we're in town. So Annabeth came with us, and Dad dropped both of us off at Grandma's house. Most of the time he's got early appointments, and can't actually take me to lessons. So about 8:45 we went to Walmart, because I had some yarn I needed to get to finish orders. (Side note, yes, I have orders again! I've sold 3 blankets since I've opened back up, although I don't have any to make right now because I already finished them. (: ) I actually ended up getting a bunch of useless stuff I don't need because I was trying to waste time, since my lesson wasn't until 10:15. 'Cause girls, you know how it is. You're just wandering aimlessly through the store, and you see something that, even though you don't actually need it, you really, really want it. Yeah, that's about the jist of it. So I got a bunch of stuff I didn't need. Oh well. :) After we left Walmart we went to the bank, and then to Walmart Neighborhood Market. But that didn't take much time, and I ended up making it to my 10:15 lesson at 9:45. I was there before the student that goes before me was there. How sad is that? But oh well. I got to talk with the Addleman girls, which I always love. :) I don't get to talk with them much at church anymore, since I really don't play football anymore, so it's nice to have them all to myself. :D

My lesson was ok. It was my last one until the middle of July, which I'm kinda' sad about. These next few weeks are gonna kill me, not having violin or voice. It did last year, it will this year. But that's ok.

My other grandma picked me up, since it's easier for Dad to go to her house right smack in the middle of town than to my other's, pretty south of town. So I went back to her house, ate lunch, and then Dad picked me up. That was at about 11:30, and Dad's 1:00 appointment cancelled, so he didn't have to be anywhere until 3:30. And this is where the fun happened. :) First we went to Chicago Music. They were having a huge sale to get rid of all their sheet music, so pretty much the music was $3 a pound. Yup, you didn't pay per book, you payed per pound. Mom and the rest of the family went Tuesday, and got like 30 books. Then Dad and I went and got like 10 more. :) We have sheet music coming out of our ears right now, which is a good thing considering I don't have lessons. There's only so far I can go with my violin without my teacher. I have plenty to keep me busy. :)

After Chicago Music, we went mini-golfing, which was awesome. :D Although I have to tell you, I still don't understand men's appeal to golf. I really don't. It seems so. stinking. boring. And yeah, I know mini-golfing is way different, but you're still using a club to hit a ball into a hole. Same sport, just played differently. Anyway, it was fun, especially when Dad would hit a ball, it'd go right into the hole... and then bounce out. :D Of course, then he'd laugh when it happened to me, which wasn't as fun. :)

And THEN, we went to the mall. I hadn't been there ever, and it had been over 10 years for Dad. We just walked around for awhile, (and that mall is HUGE, so we never ran out of places to walk) and then Dad got a sub for lunch, and we both got some frozen yogurt. It was nice getting to go and do stuff, but it was really nice to just be able to hang out with him. You know, a lot of times it's not doing stuff that you want to do with your parents, it's just being with them. That's part of the reason I like getting to go with Dad so much. Going to appointments and following him around, and then standing there while he explains to the buyers all the stuff that's wrong with their house isn't necessarily fun, but it's nice just being with him. Although I do have to say, I do like getting to meet all the people he knows. Pretty much every single one asks me "Is your dad this funny at home?" Yup, he is. :)

Then, we finally went to an appointment. I already knew the home inspector, which was nice. He and his wife gave us clothes for Danielle, plus he plays on Dad's softball team. So I know him pretty well. :) I don't have anything too interesting about the appointment to report, though. :) So basically we went home, I ate dinner, and then I went to bed.

Thursday was another quiet day at home, but Friday was more interesting. We went to town to pick up Annabeth, (who stayed 2 nights because Mom was having stomach troubles Thursday and we couldn't go to town) and went swimming at my grandma's pool. That was awesome. :) It was my first time going swimming this year, and it felt amazing. The pool here opens up tomorrow, so hopefully we should be able to go soon. :) But you know the really awesome part of going to town? I got to drive. Like the whole way. Like 60 miles of freeway. That was super fun. It was a little bit freaky though, because it was my first time driving the 12 passenger van, (I always drive our 7 passenger) and I did it on the freeway. :D It was ok though. I managed to get everyone home safely, so..... :)

After we left Grandma's, we went to Lowe's, to get some stuff for building a fence. Then, we went and met Dad at Chicago Music. (Yes, again) They were having a 20% off Memorial Day sale, and so we went and eventually got a new piano. The one that we have doesn't have weighted keys, and since the one that they take their lessons on does, it was a good idea to get a new one. So we did. It's just a keyboard, but it's a lot nicer than the one we have. I also got a new shoulder rest for my violin. The one that I had is apparently a cheap knockoff version of a more expensive one, and it's not very good quality. It actually hurt at times to play with it. So I got a new one, which is SO much nicer. I love it. :)

Hm. I think that's it. I'll post about this weekend later. I'm tired of typing right now. :) Besides, I need to do math.

Oh, one more thing. Just a little thing I've been thinking about. What would ya'll think if I were to start posting pics of my outfits every once in awhile? I don't think they're anything special, in fact they can be downright boring sometimes, but I think it'd be fun. :) Any thoughts?

MORE music troubles

Ok, so I have a new development in my whole violin craziness. So I go to lessons yesterday, all ready to do the new song. Like I said, it's not really a big deal, because I've known the song for a long time. So anyway, we go through Minuet 2, (the song Hannah and I are doing together) and then it's time to do Minuet 3, which is the one that I moved to from Gavotte. Well..... I thought she had the harmony, and she thought I had the harmony. So basically we had no way for her to play it with me. Now, I'm sorry, but there is NO way that I am getting up on that stage and playing that piece all by myself. No way on earth. Miss Anna can come up with a harmony as she goes, but it sounds... I don't know... Thin. There isn't as much depth to it as there is when she has the harmony. So she suggested that I ask Mrs. MacDonald to accompany me on the piano. Well, Mrs. MacDonald is really busy right now with Wes' graduation, (we're going to the ceremony tonight) plus apparently she had said she wasn't going to accompany anyone this year. She did it last year, and it was just too much for her. But, Mom said we could ask. We called, but she wasn't home, and we hadn't heard back from her. So, the only other person that I could think of that is really good at piano and could pull it together that fast, plus was already gonna be there, was Azlan Addleman. He plays on Dad's softball team, so I brought the sheet music for the piano accomaniment with me to the game. I asked him, and he said he'd see what he could do, but I could tell he really didn't want to do it (he had just explained to me on Wednesday how much he HATES recitals), and I didn't want to stress him out, so I told him not to worry about it. So now I don't have an accompaniment, and the recital is in 2 days. Ugh. I really don't have any other options other than to do it with Miss Anna, which like I said sounds thin. I am so at a loss.......

My Wednesday Craziness

Wednesdays are always crazy for me, and today was no exception. I woke up at 4:45 this morning, which in my opinion is WAY too early, but that's ok. So I got ready, had breakfast, and Dad, David and I left at 6:30. David was having a sleepover at my grandma's house, and we needed to drop him off. So we went there, dropped him off, and then Dad took me to my other grandma's house. Sometimes on Wednesdays he's got appointments, and can't take me to my voice lesson. So then we call Nana.

So anyway, Dad dropped me off there about 8:30, and at 9 we left to go to Walmart. There was some yarn I needed to finish a blanket, and Nana needed to look at new curtains for her kitchen. We left, and went to my lesson, but it was only about 9:45, and we didn't have to be there till 10, so we went to CVS. All we did there was look around, and laugh at absolutely rediculous graduation cards. Quick side question. Does anybody understand funny graduation cards? See, if it was me graduating, I'd want a card with words of encouragement, or Scriptures or something inside it. Not something crazy like the cards we read today. Eh, just my opionion. Anyway, we went back to my lesson, and I got to talk to the Addleman girls for awhile. Mostly we talked about the recital on Sunday (they're in it too), but we always talk about just random stuff. That's mainly my favorite part of Wednesdays. They're always off doing something else at church on Sundays, and I normally don't get to talk to them. So it's nice to have them all to myself! Muahaha. :D

My lesson itself went really, really well. There are some lessons that I have that I hate, but there are some lessons, like today, that I absolutely love. It actually was a pretty difficult lesson, in that it was all about getting me out of my shell, my little comfort zone, but it was good. You know how sometimes things are really hard, and yet they're really great at the same time? That's what my lesson was like. It was hard, but it was amazing. I'm actually really, really happy. :)

Nana picked me up from my voice lesson, and then she took me back to her house, where I ate lunch. Dad came to pick me up about noon, and then he took me to appointments. We went to two houses today, both of which barely took any time at all, which I was grateful for. I like getting to meet all the people Dad works with. :) Haha today Dad and one of the realtors were arguing. He has a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, while Dad has an iPad, and they spent the whole time arguing, with Dad calling his tablet names. :D It was actually pretty hillarious to watch. It's so awesome getting to meet all the people Dad works with. I'm constantly getting questions like "Is he like this at home?" or "He's your dad? I feel sorry for you." My dad is such a goofball, and yet everyone loves him. :)

So anyway, I was really lucky, because Dad only had to work until 1:45. Then we went to the bank, and then headed home. We spent the whole way home listening to Jonathan Park. :) I've heard all of them, so nothing surprises me, but Dad hasn't, and he would make funny faces whenever the dark, scary music came on that suggested that something nerve-wracking was about to happen. It was hillarious. :D

After we got home, somehow Hannah convinced Dad to take us to Salsa Fiesta, a small Mexican restaraunt here. That was nice. We've been there several times. It's become our favorite place down here. :) Well, that's not true. I like the buffet down here better, but Dad doesn't. And it's actually kind of weird. Their eggs smell like fish.......

And now I'm home, writing this. Tomorrow we have violin, where we'll go over last minute details for the recital and go through the pieces a couple times, and then tomorrow night Dad has a double header softball game. That should be fun. Although, I was asking Dad today if he knew anything about the teams they were playing. Well, he looked it up, and it turns out that the first team they're playing is undefeated, and the second team... They're only loss is to the first team. Yeah. This could be either potentially really good, or really, REALLY bad. We'll have to see. :)

Music Troubles

Ok, so for the last two years I've had 2 recitals in May. The homeschool one at the beginning of the month, and my violin one about 3 weeks later. And just like last year, it's been pretty hectic. The homeschool recital is done, and I'm glad for that, but now my violin recital is on Sunday, and I have been working like crazy to get ready for it.

I actually didn't know what I was going to be playing until last Thursday. Yeah, I know. That's cutting it pretty close. But I already had a pretty good idea of what I was going to do. It was a song I'd been working on for a couple weeks now, and it just made sense that I was going to do it. So anyway, Thursday rolls around, and during our lesson we determine that yes, that's the song I'll do. I'll do the melody, and Miss Anna, my teacher, will do the harmony. Ok, no big deal. The song is faster than what I'm used to, but since I'd been practicing it for awhile, I was able to play it without even thinking about it. So we determined that I'm gonna do a song with Hannah, (the same one we did in the homeschool recital, which I'm glad about, becuase I don't have to learn something new) then I'll do my song with Miss Anna. Then later on in the recital we'll both be doing a song with some other families from church as a group. We'll be playing Turkey In The Straw, which is quite different from the classical pieces the rest of the recital will be filled with, but that's ok. :D I'm looking forward to doing that.

Anyway, so I've been working on all three of the songs, getting ready to do them. Then, Miss Anna calls last night, and guess what? I'm not playing that one song by myself. Apparently there are too many people doing that one, and so she wanted me to play a different one instead. It's like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? She said she had confidence that I'd be able to pull something together in that short of a time, which made me feel better. :) It's another song that I've known for awhile, and while I know it pretty well, I don't like it as much. But I probably know it as well. It's just kind of messing me up to have a song change less than a week before the recital. Ugh. Oh well. It's perfectly fine. It's a shorter song, too, which I'm somewhat glad about. The way that I figure it, the shorter of a time I'm up on stage, the better. :) Although, I suppose I'm never going to get comfortable on stage if I don't actually do it. I don't know.

Anyway, sorry to bother you with my music troubles, but I was trying to think of something to write, and I was like, "Eh, I'll just post about violin." :) I absolutely LOVE doing violin, but I gotta tell ya, it's kind of a big curveball to have a song change now. Oh well. :)

Hola

Wow wow wow. So much has been happening lately. It's pretty crazy. I've so badly wanted to write about it, but unfortunately I've been having to stay off of the internet pretty much completely. But right now I'm at my grandma's house using her wifi. :) *evil-sounding laugh* ;)

Let's see. Where do I start????? Hm. Well, I suppose I should start with the fair. It was an amazing time. Hannah and I both won blue ribbons, which I'm pretty happy about. We spent a LONG time trying to find Hannah's picture though. Turns out it was displayed way up high, in a place that we had looked before, but apparently we missed it. Haha and you know what they did to my blanket? They displayed the back side of it. The BACK SIDE!!! I was kinda upset at first. It's like "Really? You couldn't tell the front from the back??" I mean, the back is ok, but it doesn't look nearly as nice as the front. Oh well. :) We got some pictures, but for some reason I can't get them to load onto Google Plus, which is how I get them on my blog from my phone. I'll figure it out eventually. The rest of the fair was ok. We went on rides, and by the time we were done my feet hurt SO bad. One of these days I'm gonna look up how big those fairgrounds are..... After we left the fair we went and got Dairy Queen before going back home. Butterfinger Blizzard..... Am I making your mouth water? Because I'm making mine water. :)

A while ago I decided to take my blankets off of Etsy for a little while. I was just getting stressed out, and I needed a break. It was so nice to be able to relax. It was nice to not have to worry about when orders have to get out, how many blankets I need to make at any given time, what supplies I need, or whether I'll have time to finish this particular blanket before the post office closes. It was so much fun being able to come up with new color combinations. I think during my break I made 7 new blankets, and I have 2 new ones in the works. Plus ideas for so many others. When I have orders to do, it's hard to be creative, because you have to make the blanket that the customer wants you to make. When I don't have any orders, I use my creativity as much as I want. It's been awesome. I'm working on trying to list a bunch of the new ones, although I haven't been able to take pictures of most of them yet. I'll have to work on that later today. Anyway, I'm rambling. So even though the break was so nice, Sunday I had to put my blankets back up. I decided that if I want to go to Alaska in less than 2 months, I'd better start making money again. :) I have quite a bit of what I need, but unless I started up again, I'd have to borrow some from Jonathan, (who is my amazing brother who knows how much I want to go to Alaska and would be willing to pay for my whole ticket if I asked) and I don't want to borrow any money. So I have to get working again. So far I haven't sold any blankets, but after I take my stuff down it always takes it awhile to get momentum going again. So I'm still working on new stuff. :)

Lately we've been able to go to some baseball games. One of the men from church wanted to start a team, and Dad's on it, as well as our pastor and his son, and another man from church. Plus I know of 2 other people who might be on it. The rest of the team is people that Mr. LePerle (the guy who started it) knows from his old church, and one of the home inspectors Dad works with. We've gone to 2 games now, and we're going to another one tomorrow. They've been fun. They're only hour-long games, so we can bring the little kids, and they won't get terribly bored. Plus they can play with Yuna LePerle. They like that. :)

Last Friday all six of us had a recital. It's the same one I sang in last year, and I sang again this time. It was freaky, and I thought I was gonna die, but I did it. :) Wes accompanied me again, which was really nice. I sang a song that's called It Happens by Sugarland. Well, I kinda sang that song. Mom and I really liked the song, but the lyrics... Well, they weren't inappropriate, they're just rather worldly. So Mom rewrote it into a song that's all about trusting God and knowing that what He does is always for the best. Ugh. I can't believe I'm doing this, but here's the video if you want to see it. Be warned though, there's a LOT of flat notes in the chorus. :) What can I say, I was nervous.

Also, Hannah and I played a violin song we had been working on, and all the other kids played piano. I would love to put videos up of them, but unfortunately we don't have them on YouTube yet. So I'll get around to it eventually. David played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with Mrs. MacDonald (his piano teacher) accompanying him, Annabeth played the same thing with Jonathan accompanying her, Sarah played I Surrender All, and Jonathan played All Through The Night. They all did wonderfully. Hannah and I played Minuet 2, with Hannah playing the melody and me playing the harmony, and that went alright. Hannah's violin was out of tune, so there were a lot of wrong notes. I don't know how her violin was so out of tune though. There are chairs on the side of the stage that the next performers sit on, and while we were there and Jonathan was playing, I had Hannah's violin right up next to my ear, and I was plucking it really quietly to make sure it was in tune. And wouldn't you know it, by the time we got up on stage and started playing, it wasn't in tune. Ugh. Oh well. I suppose it turned out ok.

Let's see. I suppose that's all I have to say right now. Adios!
